India and Japan Forge Mutually Beneficial Clean Energy Partnership
Recent Ammonia Deals and Renewable Transactions (JERA, IHI, Acme, Renew) Signal Growing Cooperation in the Clean Energy Sector"
Japan and India have strengthened their renewable energy ties.
India is at the forefront of exporting renewable energy to Japan. JERA's agreement with ReNew to develop a green ammonia project is a case in point.
Despite Australia developing several projects, none have signed contracts yet.
Developing cost-competitive projects is key for India’s emerging renewable energy export dominance while Japan’s challenging topography means it will have to rely on imports to meet its decarbonisation targets.

Strengthening Renewable Energy Ties
Japan and India have strengthened their renewable energy ties, with a focus on exporting renewable energy to Japan.
India's ReNew Energy Global has agreed to develop a 100,000 mt/year green ammonia project with Japan's JERA.
Cost Competitiveness
Developing cost-competitive projects is key to success in the renewable energy market.
JERA's agreement with ReNew is a case in point, with the project utilizing 500 MW of high-capacity utilization factor renewable energy.
Green Ammonia Project
The green ammonia project will be developed in Paradip, Odisha, eastern India.
The project will produce 100,000 mt/year of green ammonia, using renewable energy to produce green hydrogen.
JERA will have the right to offtake the green ammonia from the project, which is likely to start up by 2030.
